The Directorate General of Special Education was established in 1985 as an attached Department of the Ministry of Women's Development, Social Welfare and Special Education and oversees a network of 45 Special Education Centers catering to the educational needs of children with disabilities. The Directorate also has established certain other institutions which are engaged in supplementing its efforts for the causes of PWDs. |

National Trust for the Disabled (NTD) was established in 1987, under Charitable Endowment Act 1890, at the Federal Level with an independent and autonomous status, to bridge the gap of services, to develop resources to supplement Public Sector efforts, to prepare execute policy and plans for Special Education, to co-ordinate and evaluate, to undertake expansion, revitalization of the existing services, to initiate new schemes for the Disabled Persons and further to ensure efficient, effective, speedy planning, implementation and rehabilitation of Disabled Persons. |
