Additional Proposed Legislation
The following are 17 separate bills and resolutions that have been proposed in Congress and in the Senate in order to further strengthen the legislation of PWDs:
Senate Bill No. 378
An Act creating the bureau of special education in the Department of Education, Culture and Sports, providing for its powers, duties and functions and for other purposes.
Senate Bill No. 1904
An Act penalizing the negative portrayal of a person with disabilities in movies, television, stage and other forms of mass communication.
Senate Bill No. 1376 and No. 572
An Act giving priority to disabled individuals in the operation of vending facilities in government property. To enlarge the economic opportunities of disabled persons and for other purposes.
Senate Bill No. 296
An Act providing for the representation of the disabled sector in the House of Representatives for the manner of their nomination and appointment and for other purposes.
Senate Bill No. 1267 and No. 1678
An Act providing for the creation of municipal special education centre for deaf and blind children appropriating funds thereof and for other purposes.
Senate Bill No. 92
An Act providing for the design and construction of public buildings to accommodate persons with physical disabilities.
Senate Bill No. 476
An Act authorizing the SSS to establish and maintain an adequate program for the retraining and re-employment of covered handicapped employees, incorporating for this purpose a new section 14-B into R.A. 1661 as amended otherwise known as the Social Security Law.
Senate Bill Nos. 1745, 1766, 1757 and No. 7526
An Act requiring all franchise holders or operators of television stations, producers of television programs, home video programs and motion pictures to have their programs and films broadcast with closed-caption and providing penalties thereof for violation.
Senate Bill No. 1604
An Act requiring employers in the private sector to have in their employment people with disabilities and providing additional incentives therefore, and amending for the purpose R.A. 7277, otherwise known as the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons.
Senate Bill No. 5465
An Act granting other privileges and incentives and further amending the purpose of R.A. 7277.
Senate Bill No. 6105
An Act requiring all government agencies to procure 5 per cent of their annual office supplies from manufacturing firms operated by people with disabilities and providing penalties for violation thereof.
Senate Bill No. 79
An Act amending Article 78 and Chapter I, titled " Three Book Three" of the Labour Code. As amended, it gives additional protection to disabled workers.
Senate Bill No. 3002
An Act requiring mall owners to allot space for groups of disabled musicians and vendors and providing for the tax exemption of a percentage of the imputed value of such allotted space.
Senate Bill No. 4923
An Act establishing special schools for blind persons, deaf persons, and other physically and mentally disabled and disadvantaged persons.
Senate Resolution No. 485
Directing the Committee on Health and Demography, Social Justice, and Justice and Human Rights to conduct an inquiry, in aid of legislation, into the implementation of R.A. 7277, otherwise known as the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, and B.P. 844, known as the Accessibility Law, and to recommend appropriate measures therefore
Senate Resolution No. 10
Urging the Senate to ratify Convention No. 159 concerning Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Disabled Persons) as adopted by the General Conference of the International Labour Organization during its sixty-ninth session on 1 June 1983.
