Course Orientation for Participants

I. Essential Fact of the Workshop

Countries Invited & Participants 24 persons from 11 countries (Mainly NGO officers) Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, Vanuatu, Viet Nam
Target Group NGO officer responsible for information management and public relations in a disability-related organization
Course Objectives Upon completion of the course, participants are expected to be able to;
  • Promote/contribute information and networking management in their home country
  • Create and maintain accessible and informative websites concerning disability-related issues
  • Understand a concept of information accessibility for PWDs based on universal design principle
  • Be an information focal point of the APCD in distributing and collecting disability-related information in their home country & community
  • Contribute to APCD regional networking

III. Course Guideline

The workshop is basically divided into two parts:

  1. Information Networking and Management (22 -30 June) and
  2. Information Accessibility: Hands-on Training (1-9 July).

In the first day, all participants will be requested to make a brief presentation on your organization, activities, and country report of information networking and management. It should be a group discussion style, each participant has approximately 10 minutes to present. Required information will be provided later in this paper.

In the session of the information networking and management, you will learn case studies of disability network, non-disability national and regional network as well as professional media network. In the end of the session, you will be requested to make an action plan of your organization for information networking and management.

In the Information Accessibility: Hands-on training session, you must make an accessible and information website for persons with disabilities by yourself. You should at least know how to make a basic website before joining the session. You are also requested to prepare web contents information by yourself. Basic contents of your website could be the same with your prepared presentation but it should be full detail. The web contents will also be re-planned according to the action plan that you will make in the workshop.

The end of the workshop, 9 July, you must present your action plan for information networking and management with the accessible website which you will make during the workshop.

The certificate of the workshop will be delivered at the closing ceremony, when you complete the workshop.

IV. Guideline for the Preparation

All participants are required to prepare the following information in order to share a common situation in information networking and management in your organization/country.

  1. Introduction of your organization
    1. Year Established, No. of Staff, Location,
    2. Goal/Objectives, Activities, Outcome
    3. Your main responsibility and activities, etc
  2. Information Networking in your country
    1. Disability Information Networking by Government
      1. Is there any information service for PWDs
      2. Any system/responsible organization for disability information sharing
      3. Is disability-related information widely available?
      4. etc
    2. Disability Information Networking by NGOs
      1. Any NGOs taking initiative in information networking in your country?
      2. Any disability information center of your country?
        1. What is their service, internet/e-mail/resource center?
        2. How often are you using?
        3. Is that reliable?
    3. etc.
  3. Information Management in your organization
    1. How do you gather disability information? (Where is a reliable source?)
    2. How does your organization distribute information?
    3. Problem/obstacles in information management
    4. Do you have any idea to improve information networking and management in your country?
    5. etc
  4. Other
    1. Any other information of your organization (pamphlet, Newsletter, video, etc) regarding information networking and management are welcome to bring in.
