Resource Persons Profile

  1. Mr. Monthian Buntan is the Director of Technology, International Relations and Human Resource Development of the Thai Blind People's Foundation. Trained in Music Theory and Composition as well as English and Philosophy he was the Deputy Director of Ratchasuda College, Mahidol University. Among his many positions in the disability movement, he served as the President of the Thailand Association of the Blind, Executive Committee Member of the World Blind Union, member on the Advisory committee on Disability to the Prime Minister of Thailand, member on the Committee on Educational Reform for Persons with Disabilities, other Disadvantage Groups and Gifted Children, Ministry of Education. Mr. Buntan is also founder of the Thai National Institute for the Blind and the Thailand National Committee on DAISY Production and Services. In 1995, he was awarded the Most Outstanding Person with Disabilities in Thailand from the Council on Social Welfare and in 2001; he was awarded the Plaque of Honour from the Prime Minister of Thailand as an Outstanding Individual whose contributions have made significant improvements to the lives of persons with disabilities in Thailand.

  2. Mr. Masafumi Nakane is an assistant professor at Keio University. His primary work is in research activities related to the Internet, RFID tags, and their application. He is also actively involved in activities to promote and improve computer accessibility as well as development of FreeBSD, a freely distributed open-source Unix-like operating system.

  3. Ms. Nguyen Hong Ha is currently working as the coordinator for Disability Forum on the Network to share information and coordinate the programs and activities in disability field.

  4. Mr. Javed Abidi has been involved in massive disability movement in India. He has taken on the government and policy makers on numerous occasions to bring about a change in the rights of disabled persons in India. Getting the Disability Act passed in Parliament, having disability included in the Census, and sensitizing corporate about employing persons with disabilities are some campaigns that he led. At present, he is an Independent Candidate for New Delhi Constituency and an Executive Director of National Center for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People.

  5. Ms. Misako Nomura is a Deputy Director of Information centre in Japanese Society for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities. She is managing web-based bilingual information services on disabilities (www.dinf.ne.jp) focusing on access to information of persons with disabilities. She has been active in support of cognitive/intellectual disability internationally, and conducting a research on the use of DAISY (www.daisy.org) among dyslexic readers. She ha been working for "DAISY for All Project" organized by DAISY Consortium as Project Secretary and Acting Project Manager since May in 2004.

  6. Ms. Wantanee Panthachat is a Chief of Assistive Technology Section, National Electronics and Compute Technology Center (NECTEC) in Thailand.

  7. Mr. Raksak Chairanchuensakul is a computer teacher Teaching computer for blind students at Bangkok School for the Blind.
